As one looks at the proposed Mogran animation and renderings one has to ask the question why has the people of Sudan dared to dream of building a modern metropolis in Africa. How is it that Sudan is able to commence in building such a large scale project while the Saharan nation suffers heavy sections from the west and a civil war. Some would describe Sudan’s conversion of oil wealth into large scale icon development as the Dubai Effect but why have oil rich Nigeria and Angola not commenced in building such bold attention grabbing projects ? Alsunut.com states that the project will be built in two phases along the nile river. Phase 1 is the Almogran central business district and Phase 2 is the Almogran Residential Estate. With in the proposed Architecture of the new Mogran city, is there any notion of a modern African Architectural esthetic or is this a replay of the international style being embraced by developing nations to emit a sign of progress. Modern day Sudan being home to some of the worlds oldest civilizations and pre Islamic cultures has created a architectural opportunity to invent the concept of a modern African metropolis. Will Mogran city developers employ globally situated African Architects and local construction workers or will the brain and brawn trust come from the Middle East, Asia and Europe ?
